A Jersey City man thought to be high on PCP has been charged with biting, punching and kicking emergency medical technicians who responded to help him, officials said yesterday.

The EMTs nonetheless managed to take the man to the hospital for treatment.

Arturo Beverly, 21, of Union Street, was charged with aggravated assault on the three emergency responders after the incident late Monday night in the building where he lives, reports said.

The EMTs responded to the residence off Ocean Avenue around 11 p.m. on a report of a man down in the lobby and when they approached Beverly he appeared to be having a seizure, reports said.

Beverly began kicking, biting and punching, and the two male EMTs suffered bite wounds on their arms and the female EMT was punched in the eye and kicked in the knee, reports said.

Beverly was taken to the Medical Center by the three EMTs he is charged with assaulting and he was treated for being under the influence of PCP, reports said.

The EMTs were also treated in the Medical Center emergency room, reports said.
