Jersey City man's apartment burglarized after impostor sheriff's officers tie him up

Friday, January 29, 2010

A 27-year-old Jersey City man was robbed of $1,800 cash and $200 worth of jewelry by three men pretending to be Hudson County Sheriff's officers Tuesday night, police said.

The victim told cops he arrived at his apartment building, on the 100 block of Manhattan Avenue, at about 8:45 p.m. and three men in their 20s followed him inside and up the stairs, authorities said.

Once outside the door of his fourth-floor apartment, one of the men flashed a gold badge and said he and the other two men were sheriff's officers.

The victim didn't buy it, but the men forced him into the apartment and ordered him to lock his dog in the bathroom, police said.

The men tied the victim's hands behind his back and ransacked the apartment. They stole two gold bracelets and cash, investigators said.
