It doesn't answer why even Off Duty cops are necessary. Why can't on-duty cops from the East Precinct monitor the Path Station and Plaza. It's unreasonably to expect businesses to pay extra for services that our taxes pay for and should be a given.

I'm all for some kind of change here. I don't think that closing the plaza really solves for anything.
That said, the $3000 number quoted in the article makes no sense to me. If we just consider "warmer months" to be May - September we're talking about 60 working days and 2 officers per day. Are we expected to believe that these off-duty cops are going to work 5-6 hour shifts for $25?

The corrupt OFF DUTY JCPD program that is under FBI Investigation, this is what councilperson Osborne is promoting, the $60.00 per hour OVER PRICED rent a cop?
http://jclist.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=36712 Hire $15.00 per hour Security Guards without guns. That is what is really needed; anything more is a WASTE.

"On-duty officers are out of the question, according to Osborne, who said police officials have told her the city's tough west and south police districts have priority when it comes to on-duty enforcement."
EXCUSE ME, SO DOWNTOWN WILL NOT HAVE ANY OFFICERS PATROLLING???! Especially near the Path Station?! What the hell is the East District Precinct doing then?

Jersey City mulls changes to pedestrian plaza to address rowdy bar-goersBy JERSEY CITY -- With warm weather approaching, Jersey City officials, police brass and Downtown business owners are grappling with an expected repeat of last summer's rowdy, late-night behavior on the Newark Avenue pedestrian plaza. After hearing complaints from Newark Avenue residents over loud revelers attracted to the numerous bars along the plaza and restaurants blasting music that can be heard blocks away, Jersey City is considering a number of actions, everything from closing the plaza entirely, implementing a curfew and asking business owners to pitch in for off-duty police officers to guard the plaza. http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... _to_newark_ave_plaza.html
