A cannonball rests at the construction site at Berry Lane Park on Garfield Avenue in Jersey City after it was unearthed on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013. Berry Lane Park After A "Brownfields to Greenfields" initiative, the Berry Lane project will transform approximately 13.5 acres of vacant and underused industrial and commercial property into a vibrant new urban park. The park will begin at the foot of Berry Lane and continue south to the Bergen-Hudson Light Rail System; the former Morris Canal runs along the entire length of the site. Berry Lane After

Remediation has started on the site right now. Here's a layout of the plan of the park:

What's the story with this park? I was on Garfield today and saw huge posters on all the fences at the clean up site saying "Something big is coming, Berry Lane Park" with a picture of a cyclist.
Has anyone seen any of the designs. I found this old NJ.com story on it but wanted to know if there was some updated info. Thanks! Dated Nov 2011 The Jersey City Redevelopment Agency has embarked on a $41.7 million project that would create Berry Lane Park, which is set to be one of the biggest parcels of open space in Jersey City. The park, which officials hope to complete by 2016, would have various athletic fields, a concession building, an amphitheater, indoor recreation and thousands of trees, all on a 17.5-acre site comprising 12 different lots. Berry Lane Park would sit between Garfield Avenue and Woodward Street, north of the light rail station. ?There is a need for open space. There is a need for green space,? JCRA Director of Development Ben Delisle said. Delisle presented the City Council last week with a proposal detailing the park?s creation, and the plan?s price tag threw some of its members for a loop. Roughly $14 million of the cost is being supplied by PPG Industries, which is footing the bill for chromium cleanup at the location, which is near the 16-acre Garfield Avenue chromium site owned by PPG. ?Can we afford to do it at this particular juncture?? asked Ward A Councilman Michael Sottolano. ?Twenty-seven million dollars, that?s a hell of a lot of money.? Delisle stressed that the project is going to be completed in phases, so the cost can be spread out over more than five years. ?We?re not going to come up with $40 million all at once,? Delisle told The Jersey Journal. ?It gives us some time to identify different grant sources, to start building momentum and getting other people involved and jazzed about the project.? City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said that while the city recognizes the need for park space in Ward F, the economy might cause some details to be changed.Berry Lane Park
