Well said. I'm always reminded of a line from a song in Les Miserables...

"Someone used to cradle them and kissed them when they cried."

Who are all those homeless and druggie looking folks that congregate there?

They were babies, once, someone?s son, or daughter.
Maybe neglected. Maybe no.
They played as kids, just like you or I did.
Had brothers and sisters and friends.

Their lives weren?t privileged.
Or maybe they were.
They could have had nothing.
Or they could have had every opportunity in the world.

They could be mothers or fathers.
Or grandmothers or grandfathers.
The favorite aunt or the funny, goofy uncle.

He could be your loud neighbor.
Or the creepy guy that lingers on the corner.
Or that woman that does, you know, just to get by.

They all started out as you, or as I.
More or less the same chances.
Then something happened.

A bad decision.
Mental illness.
The wars.
The job that never came.
That bad knee and the bad doc.
The woman scorned.
A stress too hurtful to bear.
Abuse of any imagined sort.
Or the sort you cannot ever imagine.
The genetic curse of substance abuse.
Or that One Try.
That One Damn Try, and then the insatiable need for another.

When we look at them
We should look at ourselves.
And wonder not who they are,
But what we can do to offer a bit of understanding
A breath of compassion.
And if nothing else, a silent prayer
If you are so inclined,
That they get to enjoy a moment of peace,
A chance to heal, both mind and body.

I'm guessing this is a joke, or some kind of abstract question?

They're homeless people, dude. And a lot of them undoubtedly have substance problems. Can I explain anything else to you?
