Since when is the Jersey City Reservoir in Morris County?

Writer meant the Boonton Reservoir, where Jersey City gets its water from.

I will give you one guess what county the town of Boonton is in.

Madison resolves to oppose Pilgrim Pipeline

William Westhoven, Daily Record - October 23, 2014

Madison has become the latest Morris County municipality to formally oppose the proposed Pilgrim Pipeline, which would carry Bakken shale crude through Morris County.

By passing the resolution as part of its consent agenda on Oct. 15, Madison joined Parsippany and Montville, which passed similar resolutions earlier in the year. The Kinnelon council is expected to consider a similar measure soon after opponents and supporters packed a public meeting there on Tuesday.

?We thank the Madison council for their leadership in opposing the Pilgrim Pipeline,? said Kate Millsaps, Conservation Program Coordinator, NJ Sierra Club. ?By passing this resolution the council members are putting clean drinking water, public health and safety, and environmental protection first.?

Like the Parsippany resolution, which passed in June, and the Montville resolution, which was passed in September, the Madison resolution reads much like a sample resolution the Sierra Club has made available to municipal bodies wishing to oppose it.

Parsippany was the first community in New Jersey to formally oppose the controversial project, citing concerns about the safety and environmental impact that the estimated 180-mile, $820 million project might present to residents.

The proposed pipeline would transport Bakken shale oil from a regional hub in Albany, N.Y., to a refinery in Linden. The oil currently is transported by train from North Dakota to Albany, then by barge to Linden. A second pipeline would permit transport of the refined fuel back to Albany.

No formal plans have been submitted, but a rendering from Pilgrim Pipeline Holdings depicts a route down the Route 87 corridor from Albany into New Jersey, where it would follow the PSE&G right of way through Morris County and into Watchung in Somerset County, and Scotch Plains, Fanwood and Westfield in Union County before arriving in Linden.

Watchung also passed a resolution opposing the pipeline, as did Oakland in Bergen County.

The Bakken crude ? produced by hydraulic fracturing, a controversial process known as fracking ? is considered by some environmentalists as more volatile and potentially explosive. Unlike the plant in Linden, many refineries around the country are not unequipped to process Bakken crude, making Linden a critical destination.

A rendering shown at a public meeting in Parsippany showed the pipeline passing through Morris County close to the Jersey City Reservoir and Troy Meadows in the township, among other environmentally sensitive areas.

?There is nothing Parsippany would gain from this project,? said Parsippany Councilman Michael dePierro, who also sits on the township planning board. ?Our residents take on the risk of potential leaks in the future, but there is no gain ? financial or otherwise.?
