NEW YORK - No, the high price of fuel didn't drive them to it.
A team of four rowers from the United Kingdom is attempting to row across the Atlantic Ocean, starting from the Hudson River and hoping to end at the Isles of Scilly, a group of islands off the tip of the UK.
A web site dedicated to the effort said the rowers would have to cover more than 3,200 miles. As of yesterday afternoon, the start day, the web site tracked the rowers as having gone 23 miles. The trip was expected to take 55 days.
The rowers were expected to take turns, rowing in two-hour shifts and then switching off.
