Do you know if they accept clothing donation via mail? I have a huge box of gently used clothes that I want to donate to this shelter. I live near VVP, don't have a car & public transportation with such a heavy box is not feasible.

Any suggestions? Can someone like a volunteer from the shelter who has a car meet up near VVP to pick up the clothing box?

How you can help the homeless

By Sudip Bhattacharya | The Jersey Journal
December 18, 2014 at 5:37 PM

As The Jersey Journal continues to explore the issue of homelessness and examine the homeless population of Hudson County, a number of local organizations seek the help of the public in fulfilling their missions.

Here's a look at some of those groups and how you can help them:

St. Lucy's Emergency Shelter

The shelter, which is located at 619 Grove St. in Jersey City, is run by Catholic Charities and is open year-round. People who are interested in helping can donate much-needed items to the shelter, which is open 24 hours and seven days a week.

"In addition to food and clothing, we very much need bed linens for twin beds, towels, paper goods including toilet paper, napkins and paper plates," said Brenda Pulaski, director of housing services for Catholic Charities.

Volunteer opportunities include serving dinner to the homeless and cleaning parts of the shelter. Those interested in volunteering can call the shelter at 201-656-7201
