Summer is here, and to kick off the season in Jersey City, Mayor Steve Fulop has announced a number of recreation events and activities for kids and families.

Included in this summer's recreational initiatives are outdoor basketball, tennis, and volleyball leagues, as well as the opening of two outdoor pools, seven indoor pools, and sprinklers at 13 parks throughout Jersey City for youth and adults to cool off during the summer months.

"As school comes to an end, it is important to keep our children safe and off the streets," Fulop said in a statemnet. "The Department of Recreation's outdoor summer leagues provides children and teens the opportunity to stay active by getting involved with competitive sports."

Here's a list of the city's summer basketball leagues:

Hamilton Park Boy's Summer High School Basketball League: June 9 ? August 7, Monday ? Friday from 4 p.m. ? 10 p.m. (Rain Location @ M.S. #7 222 Laidlaw Ave.)

Washington Park Girl's Summer High School Basketball League: June 23 ? August 15, Monday ? Thursday from 4 p.m. ? 9 p.m., Ages 14-18. (Rain Location @ P.S #27)

Bayside Park Men's/Women Summer Basketball League: July 7 ? August 22, Monday ? Friday (Men), Wednesdays (Women) from 6 p.m. ? 9 p.m., Ages 18 and over. (Rain Location @ P.S #40)

Audubon Park Boys High School Summer Basketball League: July 7 ? August 22, Monday ? Friday from 5 p.m. ? 9 p.m., Ages 14-18. (Rain Location @ P.S #15)

Pershing Field Summer Basketball League: July 7 ? August 22, Monday ? Friday from 4 p.m. ? 9 p.m., Ages 11-14 on Court 1, Ages 15-18 on Court 2.

Westside/Pavonia High School and Grammar Summer Basketball League: July 7 ? August 22, Monday ? Friday from 5 p.m. ? 9 p.m., Ages 11-14 on Court 1, Ages 15-18 on Court 2.

Muhammad Ali Grammar Summer Basketball League: July 7 ? August 22, Monday ? Friday from 4 p.m. ? 9 p.m., Ages 9-11 on Court 1, Ages 12-14 on Court 2.

Here's a list of summer tennis leagues:

Hamilton Park: Fridays, from 5 p.m. ? 7 p.m., age 6-15.
Country Village: Fridays, from 5 p.m. ? 7 p.m., age 6-15
Bayside Park: Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5 p.m. ? 7 p.m., age 6-15
Audubon Park: Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5 p.m. ? 7 p.m., age 6-15
Pershing Field: Mondays and Wednesdays, from 5 p.m. ? 7 p.m., Ages 6 - 7 on Court #1, Ages 8 ? 9 on Court #2, and Ages 10 ? 15 on Court #3.

Here's a list of pools that will be open for use:

Pavonia Pool (West Side & Pavonia): June 27 ? September 1, Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Lafayette Pool & Aquatic Center (Johnson & Pacific): June 27 ? September 1, Monday ? Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Pershing Field Pool: Open all year round, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Public School #6 (100 St. Paul's Avenue): July 1 - August 8, Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. ? 4:00 p.m.

Public School #16 (96 Sussex Street): July 1 ? August 22, Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. ? 4:00 p.m.

Public School #27 (201 North Street): July 1 ? August 22, Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. ? 4:00 p.m.

Public School #40, (88 Gates Avenue): July 1 - August 8, Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Public School #41: July 1st ? August 22nd, Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. ? 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Ferris High School (35 Colgate Street): July 1 ? August 22, Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. ? 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The following sprinklers will open seven days a week beginning today through August 31 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting"
