NEW YORK-- New York City police say they had to rescue a man from the Hudson River after he fell into the chilly water trying to recover his jacket.
The 29-year-old man was hospitalized in stable condition after the episode Thursday afternoon.
Police say he spent about five minutes in the roughly 45-degree water after accidentally dropping his jacket in the river off Manhattan. The cold quickly began to numb him.
Detective Todd Sessa says the man could barely talk through his chattering teeth when police pulled him out of the water.
