Well, I'm sorry to report that the NY Daily News story was incorrect - the pilot was killed in the crash. This is just terribly sad news:

A small plane -- described as a vintage World War II aircraft -- crashed in the Hudson River tonight between North Bergen and Weehawken, authorities confirmed.

A body was recovered near the plane later Friday night, CNN reported around 11 p.m.

Jeff Welz, co-director of the North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue, said that his department, along with New York City's Fire Department and the Coast Guard responded after the 7:30 p.m. crash.

I have said it for years -- aircraft shows (Fleet Week) need to be banned around cities!

Vintage plane crashes in Hudson River during Fleet Week

Emergency crews search for a plane that crashed into the Hudson River on Friday, May 27, 2016 between New York City and New Jersey.

CBS NEWS
May 27, 2016

NEW YORK -- A small plane crashed in the Hudson River between New York and New Jersey Friday evening, CBS New York station WCBS reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it received a report a World War II vintage P-47 Thunderbolt aircraft went down in the river two miles south of the George Washington Bridge around 7:30 p.m.

The New York Police Department said the plane crashed in the river closer to the New Jersey side. NYPD boats were sent to the crash scene, searching along with FDNY and New Jersey State Police.

(River Road is closed just before Bulls Ferry Rd. Traffic is completely tied up throughout the area just past Weehawken.)
