Camden named America's most dangerous city
MONDAY, 23 NOVEMBER 2009 14:47 Newark, Trenton and Elizabeth ranked in top 100 BY TOM HESTER SR. www.NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM Camden was named America's most dangerous city for 2009 Monday based on a survey by CQ Press, which tracks violent crime in 393 cities and towns. The impoverished Camden County city where state troopers are present to back up local police, bumped New Orleans from the top spot is held last year. Under the CQ Press review, Camden ranks number one nationally in murders and robberies, 6th in assaults, 8th in rapes and motor vehicle thefts, and 41st in burglaries. Newark is ranked 29th most dangerous, Trenton 32nd, Elizabeth 69th, Jersey City 109th, Clifton 300th, Hamilton (Mercer) 348, Woodbridge 352, Edison 355, Toms River 371, and Brick 386. Philadephia ranks 21st and New York 296. St. Louis is ranked as the second most dangerous city in the nation followed by Oakland, Detroit, Flint, Mi., New Orleans, Birmingham, Ala., Cleveland, Jackson, Miss., Memphis, Gary, Ind., Compton, Ca., Baltimore, Richmond, Ca., and Kansas City, Mo.
