The Hudson County Improvement Authority deal gets Jersey City 8 new fire trucks

MICHAELANGELO CONTE - JERSEY JOURNAL -- JAN 10

County and Jersey City officials will announce the purchase of eight new fire trucks for the Jersey City Fire Department at a press conference today at noon at the department's Downtown headquarters, officials said.

The Hudson County Improvement Authority provided the $3,250,000 to purchase the new vehicles through the authority's "Essential Purpose Pooled Governmental Loan Program." The trucks will be leased back to the city at below market rates. This amounts to substantial savings for the city, officials said.

"When municipalities need funding for the equipment that keeps our neighborhoods and homes safe, the HCIA works closely with them to secure low-cost financing," County Executive Tom DeGise said. "Everyone is a winner when cooperation exists at every level of government."

The Fire Department has already received two of the ladder trucks and by February it is to receive an additional ladder truck and five pumpers, Jersey City Fire Director Armando Roman said.

Fire Department headquarters is located at 465 Marin Blvd.
