Standing room crowd in Jersey City; No new fossil fuel plants; More electric vehiclesStanding up against climate change It was a standing room crowd at City Hall in Jersey City last week. More than 200 people packed the council chambers on Wednesday, April 17. They were concerned. They came to learn about and stand up against climate change. By the end of the evening, they were ready to take action. Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla opened the event by commenting on some of the innovative programs being implemented in their cities. This was followed by a panel that included a climate scientist talking about efforts to mitigate sea level rise, an urban environmentalist discussing the disproportionate impact of pollution and climate change on poor and minority communities, a youth activist looking at the impact of climate change on her generation and a leading environmental activist challenging the NJ Department of Environmental Protection to live up to its obligations. https://www.nj.com/hudson/2019/04/stan ... ric-vehicles-letters.html
