Fulop unveils Jersey City's AmeriCorps VISTA projectBy Jersey City is launching a federally-funded volunteer project that will promote economic opportunity and youth development for the city's low-income residents. Mayor Steve Fulop was joined by state and local officials Tuesday to announce the new City Hall AmeriCorps VISTA project, as part of a federal investment of over $550,000 for the next three years. VISTA, or Volunteers in Service to America, is a nationwide program whose corps volunteer full-time for a year at nonprofit organizations or local government agencies to carry out programs that fight poverty.
