actually the ordinance as written does not allow for an exception to resurfacing "curb to curb" and "corner to corner', the restoration (exception) to engineer standards only applies to driveways and/or sidewalks.

and there will be absolutely no cuts/opening withing 5 years of resurfacing unless an emergency (so not for upgraded or new power). only exception are buildings with less than 10 units or new construction. so while new construction is a big exception. will it be enforced as is, will it be changed? or just not enforced like everything else. lets see how it goes outside my window on Duncan Ave.

Yea, good luck with that Candy. You'll be lucky to have them pave a certain area of the street but they won't allow them to repave the entire street from a section that was dug up!

Good - take a look at 4th st between Jersey ave and Brunshwick.

They were tearing this newly paved street for 2 months.

After they finished they just dumped fresh asphalt all over the place - didnt even care to even it out slightly.

It looks like the surface of the moon, just wait till it freezes a couple of times this winter.

That contractor should be held accountable.

Jersey City ordinance would require contractors to repave streets after utility work

JERSEY CITY ? An ordinance that would require contractors to fully repave city streets following the completion of any utility work is up for final adoption by the City Council next week.

The measure, which is being advanced by Ward E Councilwoman Candice Osborne and is modeled after a successful Union City road-resurfacing program, specifically prohibits the opening of streets repaved in the last five years, except for emergency repairs.

The ordinance requires contractors to repave block-to-block any road that has been resurfaced by the city within the last 10 years.

?Jersey City invests heavily to maintain our roadways, only to see them torn up by utility contractors months, weeks and sometimes even days after the work is completed,? Councilwoman Osborne said. ?We?ve seen this idea work in other cities and from now on when we spend millions of dollars to repave our roads, they are going to last or be replaced by those who destroy them.?
