Cops: Driver of stolen van hits car Monday, October 27, 2008
Speeding away from police Saturday night, a Jersey City man in a stolen van slammed into another car, sending both vehicles through the front doors of a bank and breaking the pelvis of the innocent driver, reports said.
The driver of the second car had to be removed from the wreckage using the Jaws of Life at the Hudson City Savings Bank at Bayview and Ocean avenues around 9:30 p.m.
She was treated at the Jersey City Medical Center and was in stable condition in the intensive care unit last night, a hospital spokesman said.
Al Carson Mack, 41, of Claremont Avenue, was charged with offenses including, receiving stolen property, eluding a police officer, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, and aggravated assault on a police officer, reports said.
Officers first spotted Mack driving a white Ford that had been stolen from a trucking company Tuesday on Martin Luther King Drive, reports said.
When the police activated their lights near Bayview Avenue, the driver pulled over, but as the officers approached, Mack rammed the engine and took off east on Bayview Avenue, reports said.
