Sen. Sandra Cunningham cleared of DWI one year after Jersey City crashProsecutors on Thursday dropped a drunken-driving charge against state Sen. Sandra Cunningham, ending a yearlong legal battle after she crashed into parked cars in her hometown of Jersey City last March. Cunningham was found guilty in Bergen County Superior Court of careless driving, however, and was ordered to pay a fine of $170, the court said. Her attorney, Michael Rubas, and prosecutor Linda Schwager did not immediately respond for comment Thursday. Cunningham, the third-ranking Democrat in the Senate, was driving a 2013 Infiniti on March 4, 2021, when she struck two parked cars on Culver Street. A toxicology report indicates that State Sen. Sandra B. Cunningham did not have alcohol in her system after her arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated earlier this year.

This morning, during a fifteen minute arraignment, State Senator Sandra Bolden Cunningham entered a plea of not guilty to charges of Driving While Intoxicated and Careless Driving arising out of her March 4 arrest.
