The past week was all about the principals in the declared Hudson County Democratic Party civil war taking verbal potshots at each other expressing mutual dislike. Get it all out now because it could all end in a few months.

Let's do a quickie review - in the paragraph below -- bolstered by news links that new readers can follow just to familiarize themselves with the dramedy. In the process we can help ratchet up the emotions of participants that have already been jacked up from all the online interviews everyone has been giving.

It's all about money: contracts and patronage. This is the fuel that makes the HCDO run. The more money you can spend the more power you have.

This is a continuation of the fight between Menendez and the late Glen Cunningham over the control of the county politics. Glen and Tom both ran for mayor, Glen won. Then Glen went to control the county politics as many mayors do in Hudson County. Menendez was in control and gave the Hudson County Executive seat to Tom DeGise to get back at Glen. JC mayors have not wanted that control until now. The only way Fulop can have that control is through Brian Stack who has been the power broker of Hudson County for some time.

i still don't understand why the counties hold so much power. is that a uniquely "Jersey" thing?

Political war brewing over county exec seat

Fulop, Stack, Bhalla, Roque call for change in county leadership

A whole year ahead of the primary to select candidates for the 2019 Hudson County Executive election, a number of prominent elected officials publicly called for a change of leadership.

“Today, we stand with State Senator Brian P. Stack, Mayor Steven M. Fulop, Mayor Felix Roque, and Mayor Ravinder Bhalla, as we collectively seek change in the leadership of Hudson County government,” said a statement released Thursday and signed by Assemblywoman Angela V. McKnight, Jersey City freeholders Bill O’Dea and Joel Torres, Union City Freeholder Tilo Rivas, County Clerk E. Junior Maldonado, County Register Diane Coleman, and Jersey City Council members Joyce Watterman, Daniel Rivera, Denise Ridley and Jermaine Robinson.

The big question is: Who do these officials want to replace Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise? Do any of them plan to run, or do they have another candidate in mind?
