Jersey city teen pulls gun on cop after argument, police say

Tuesday, November 08, 2011, 4:43 PM
By Lois DiTommaso

A Jersey City teen pulled a gun on an undercover officer near Bostwick Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive.
It was like a scene from a television drama.

Six police officers jumped from their cars, badges exposed, to come to the aid of an undercover officer who radioed for help.

It all began shortly after 8 p.m., Monday, when an undercover officer saw two teens in a heated argument near Bostwick Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive. One of the teens then left.

About 10 minutes later, the cop approached the first teen, reports said, adding that "after a few heated words" a large crowd began to gather.

Reports said the teen then pulled out a small black handgun from his front jacket pocket and racked the slide back.

The officer called for backup and was soon joined by six other officers who jumped from their cars with badges exposed.

The suspect tried to flee, police said, but was stopped and the gun was found in his pocket, reports said.

The suspect was identified as Eric King of Atlantic Street, whose 18th birthday was Monday. He was charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon by a minor.
