Machete usually means Mara Salvatrucha 13, a deadly gang that originated in El Salvador. Not people you'd want to party with. Then again, machetes are probably in vogue with gangstas these days.

Three Jersey City men attacked by knives and a machete

Published: Monday, October 31, 2011, 3:00 AM
By Charles Hack/The Jersey Journal

Two men were injured in Jersey City early Saturday when they and another friend were attacked by four men who were armed with knives and a machete, Jersey City police reports said.

Police were called to Wegman Parkway off Martin Luther King Drive around 1:45 a.m. on report of a stabbing, reports said.

Two men, ages 19 and 21, were bleeding from open wounds, reports said.

A 22-year-old friend of the two victims said they were walking south on Martin Luther King Drive near Bidwell Avenue when four men pulled weapons and attacked them, reports said.

The victims, who were taken to the Jersey City Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, said three of the attackers had knives and one had a machete, reports said.
