Jersey City men arrested in North Bergen at alleged chop shop
Published: Tuesday, June 21, 2011, 3:00 AM By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal
The three Jersey City men arrested at a defunct car wash on Paterson Plank Road in North Bergen Sunday were apparently dismantling a stolen car when police nabbed them after a chase and scuffle, officials said yesterday. Amandey Acosta, of Communipaw Avenue, and Herberto Camejo, of Perrine Avenue, both 22 years old, as well as Eduardo Jimenez, 23, of Woodlawn Avenue, were arrested at 12:50 p.m. at the car wash near 18th Street, Police Lt. Frank Cannella said.
They were charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, burglary, receiving stolen property, obstructing a government function, and resisting arrest, Cannella said. Officers Anthony Cirri, Jason Appello, Alfredo Echeverria and Yousef Yousef responded to the car wash on a report of suspicious persons and found the building?s locks had been cut off, reports said.
As the cops entered one door, four men ran out another and three of them were chased down and arrested, Cannella said.
A fourth escaped into the overgrowth behind the car wash and remains at large, Cannella said.
The men appeared to have been dismantling a stolen 1999 Honda Civic inside the car wash building, he said.
The three men made their first appearance on the charges in Central Judicial Processing court in Jersey City yesterday via video link from the Hudson County jail in Kearny.
At the hearing, bail for Acosta and Camejo was set at $15,000 with a 10 percent option, and bail for Jimenez was set at $10,000 with a 10 percent option.
