If I was the judge, I'd make her pay 300.00 times the amount she got caught with that she was tryin 2 get laminated.

Jersey City teacher forged several copies of parking permit, police say after arrest at school

A Jersey City school teacher charged with forging a stack of Jersey City parking permits was arrested at School 5 Monday afternoon, officials said yesterday.

Kathleen Gabarini, 34, of Suburbia Court, was arrested at around 3 p.m. at the Merseles Street school and charged with forgery and related offenses, officials said.

The incident came to light when Gabarini asked an aide to laminate a stack of papers and the aide found that among the material was a 1/2-inch stack of parking permits, reports said. The permits all had the same permit number and were registered to the same person, reports said.

The aide did not feel comfortable laminating the permits and copied one of them and turned it over to the principal, reports said, adding that police then responded to the school and began an investigation.

Parking Authority Lt. Francisco Gonzalez was called to the school to examine the documents and he told police that authentic parking permits are issued individually and have distinctive numbers for each vehicle and/or permit holder, reports said.

Gabarini was taken to the East District police station, where she was charged on a summons and then released, reports said. She is scheduled to appear in Central Judicial Processing court in Jersey City on April 5.

Gabarini has been employed by the Jersey City school district since 1997 and her current salary is $67,710, district spokeswoman Paula Christen said yesterday. Gabarini has been relieved of her teaching duties, Christen said, adding that the district has not yet received a copy of the police report. In the meantime, Gabarini has been reassigned to the central office, Christen said.

The parking permits in question allow the bearer to park in any of the city's parking zones without having to move after two hours. They cost about $15 for residents and $300 for non-residents, Parking Authority counsel John Young said.

It is not clear what Gabarini intended to do with the permits.
