Published: Monday, February 28, 2011 By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal
Jersey City man was shot in the buttocks as he left a party that was held at The Learning Community Charter School on Kennedy Boulevard late Friday night, officials said today.
Officers responding to the school at 11:54 p.m. found the 24-year-old Claremont Avenue man bleeding from his back inside the gym on Kensington Avenue, reports said.
The victim was rushed to the Jersey City Medical Center where he told police he was leaving the party when he saw a group of people fighting on Kensington, reports said.
He said he heard three or four gunshots and realized he was hit, reports said, adding that he leaned on a car until being helped him back into the gym.
Police also spoke to the man who rented the hall to throw a party for his nephew and were told that everyone at the party was invited or a guest of someone, reports said.
He said just before the shooting there was a loud argument between two females and they were asked to leave, reports said, adding that moments later a man ran into the gym saying someone was shot.
It's not clear based on police reports if the argument was related to the shooting.
Emergency room doctors said the gunshot wound was not life threatening, reports said.
