A burglar got away with more than $4,000 in jewelry after entering a Greenville apartment from a fire escape window some time late Wednesday night or early yesterday morning, officials said.
Police were flagged down near the home of the 28-year-old victim at Garfield Avenue and Brown Place at 12:15 a.m. yesterday and she told them a burglar had taken $200 and $4,050 worth of jewelry, reports said.
The officers found items around the window had been knocked over and there were holes in the screen near the two latches, reports said. The thief apparently left through the front door because the victim said she locked it when she left but found it unlocked upon her return, reports said.
Among the items taken was a white gold necklace with a cross pendant with yellow diamonds, a gold bracelet and a ring, reports said.
Anyone with information about this burglary is asked to call the Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.
