Saturday, June 26, 2010
A 14-year-old Jersey City girl was arrested Thursday afternoon after allegedly pulling a knife on a pregnant woman following a heated argument on West Side Avenue, police said.
The juvenile was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, reports said.
At around 2:15 p.m., a 25-year-old Jersey City woman confronted her boyfriend, who was walking with the girl on West Side Avenue, yelling "Who's this girl you're with?" police said.
The woman and teen then began arguing with each other, although the woman's boyfriend said that the girl was the daughter of a friend, and that he was only loaning her money to go to the store, police said.
After striking the woman's face, causing a laceration to her left eye, the girl walked toward Lincoln Park and returned to the scene, brandishing a knife, reports said.
The man quickly wrestled the knife away from the girl and flung it in a nearby yard, where it was retrieved by police, reports said.
The girl was later released from the juvenile bureau to her mother. Both the teen and victim refused medical attention, reports said.
