Jersey City firefighters say small fire at Roberto Clemente Field extinguished they arrive

Jersey City firefighters responded to a small fire in the clubhouse of the Roberto Clemente Little League Field early yesterday afternoon but found the flames had already been extinguished, officials said.

Workers at the field, located at Pavonia and Ninth streets, had turned on a stove for the first time and a malfunction caused a fire in ductwork that was quickly put out using fire extinguishers, Fire Director Armando Roman said.


Firefighters responding on the 12:40 p.m. alarm found the fire was out and there was minimal damage, Roman said, adding that firefighters left the location at 1:15 p.m.
