DUI charges for Jersey-City driver after crash into church grate

Tuesday, February 02, 2010

An injured driver was issued a summons for driving under the influence after his car crashed into the grate of a church and damaged three parked vehicles Sunday morning, Jersey City police said.

Responding to Martin Luther King Drive and Van Nostrand Avenue at 8:27 a.m., cops found Kevin Diggs, 43, of Clinton Avenue, behind the wheel of a 2007 Toyota Camry that was resting against a roll-up metal grating and wall of The Full Will of God Christian Ministries, reports said.

The trapped driver, who appeared under the influence of drugs or alcohol, had to be extricated from the car by the police and firefighters. Diggs, who suffered a broken left leg, told police he didn't know what happened, reports said.

Before crashing into the gate, Diggs struck a 1995 Honda Accord, a 2002 Ford Econoline van, as well as a 1997 Lexus 450, reports said.

Diggs was treated at the Jersey City Medical Center and for a broken leg and charged with DUI, reports said.
