'Suspicious' packages delivered to Ellis Island

Police investigate two suspicious packages being delivered in a FedEx truck, left, at the entrance to the bridge to Ellis Island this afternoon.

Police dogs identified two packages as ?suspicious? in a Fedex delivery at Ellis Island this afternoon, officials said.

Police Lt. Edgar Martinez said Jersey City Emergency Service Unit technicians X-rayed several FedEx packages and determined they were safe.

Jersey City Police Department investigates two suspicious packages being delivered to Ellis Island.

Visitors to Ellis Island were not affected by the incident and no buildings were closed, said Darren Boch, of the National Parks Service.

However the access bridge to the island, which is used by staff and for deliveries, was temporarily closed this afternoon, Boch said.
