Cops: Bayonne man used pipe in Jersey City bar robbery attempt

By Amy Sara Clark/The Jersey Journal
January 19, 2010, 7:45AM

A Bayonne man was charged with threatening a Jersey City bar employee with a 4-foot pipe during a robbery attempt early Sunday, reports said.

The employee was locking the door to Pete and Ted's, on Summit Avenue, at about 3:15 a.m. when a man, later identified as Angel Luis Candelaria Jr., 21, of Orient Street, walked up to him with the pipe and demanded money, reports said.

The employee backed away and called police with his cell phone, at which point Candelaria fled, leaving the weapon a few doors away, reports said.
Police picked up a man fitting Candelaria's description walking westbound on Route 139 and the victim positively identified him, reports said.

Candelaria, who had five outstanding arrest warrants, was charged with robbery and two weapons possession charges, reports said.
