Two illegal assault weapons seized in separate incidents Wednesday, December 23, 2009 Two Tec-9 assault weapons were taken off the streets of Hudson County in the past few days. Jersey City police seized a Tec-9 while arresting a city teen on drug charges Monday and another Tec-9 was seized by Union City police after a stakeout led to three arrests on robbery charges Friday, officials said. When Jersey City Police Officer Louis Mecka and his K9 partner Froto arrested Scott Bradley, 19, of Madison Avenue in Jersey City, on Union Street Monday, Bradley had the assault weapon hanging from a shoelace tied around his neck, reports said.
View Larger Map Mecka and Froto were in a marked police car at Bramhall and Ocean avenues at 12:47 a.m. when Bradley ran by and appeared to be holding a weapon under his jacket, reports said. Bradley was stopped with Froto's help and the Tec-9 was found, as was a Gucci bag containing $1,400, jewelry, four cell phones and eight bags of suspected cocaine, reports said. On Friday, Union City police received a tip that a home invasion was planned at a city location and officers who set up surveillance saw one of the suspects exit the site and meet with two other suspects at 10:30 p.m., Union City Police Chief Charles Everett said. After a foot chase, police arrested Edgardo Rivera, 26, of Cambridge Avenue in Jersey City, and Union City residents Roberto Olmeda-Gonzalez, 26, of Ninth Street, and Luz E Castro, 23, of Seventh Street. Everett said that inside their car police found a handgun and a Tec-9, Everett said. The Tec-9 - which is illegal in New Jersey - is small, easily concealed, can hold 30 rounds, and can be converted to a fully automatic weapon. MICHAELANGELO CONTE
