Thursday, October 29, 2009 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER
During recent weeks more than 30 "deadbeat dads" owing nearly $410,000 in child support have been arrested by the Hudson County Sheriff's Office in a half-dozen Hudson County municipalities, officials said.
"No matter how old you are or whatever the amount of child support owed, you will be apprehended," Hudson County Sheriff Juan M. Perez said in a statement Tuesday.
Of those arrested, Paul Arede, 48, of Kearny, owed the most in back child support with a balance of $99,889, officials said.
Carlos Rivera, 50, of Guttenberg, owes $42,100.
At the bottom of the list is a 32-year-old Jersey City man who owes $114, officials said.
A total of 20 Jersey City residents were arrested, four from Bayonne, three from Union City and two from Kearny, as well as one each from North Bergen, Guttenberg and Belleville.
