2 charged in shooting on Grant Ave.
Monday, April 27, 2009 CHARLES HACK JOURNAL STAFF WRITER
Jersey City police arrested two suspects after a shooting incident Saturday night on Grant Street, reports said.
Donte Turner, 18, of Van Nostrand Avenue, and Orlando Turner, 31, Clinton Avenue, were arrested and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon, among other gun-related charges, reports said. Donte Turner was also charged with drug possession.
Responding to shots fired at 11:30 p.m., police were flagged down by a 39-year-old man standing at the front door of his home, reports said. The man said that three men had shot at him, but missed, reports said.
Cops searched the area and were able to arrest Donte Turner and Orlando Turner - it was not clear from reports if the two are related - near the scene, but a third suspect escaped, police said. The victim identified Orlando Turner as the shooter, reports said.
The suspects did not have a weapon on them, but the investigation led police to a nearby home on Grant Avenue, where a woman answered the door and said the only gun in the house was hers and said it was secured, reports said.
But when cops looked where she kept it, they found the gun missing and a box of hollow point bullets. After a search they found a .357 handgun in the house they believe was used in the shooting, reports said.
