Cops hunting Pershing Field stabber nab gun suspect instead
Monday, April 20, 2009 An investigation into a brutal stabbing Friday night at Pershing Field in Jersey City led to the unrelated arrest of a man carrying an illegal handgun, police said. Ismael Ricketts, 23, of Orange, was charged with possession of weapons for unlawful purposes and receiving stolen property, reports said. Police found a 15-year-old at Pershing Field at Central Avenue bleeding from a stab wound at 10:50 p.m. The victim said a large group of teens punched him in the face and swung a bottle hitting him on the head, and he then felt a sharp object slicing him behind the ear. The youth was treated and released at the Jersey City Medical Center. Searching for the attackers, police spotted Ricketts, who they said was acting suspiciously, and found the gun in his car, reports said. CHARLES HACK
