Arrest in kidnap drama, ramming of auto in chase
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
A jilted Elizabeth man kidnapped the 21-year-old mother of his child at the Hudson Bergen Light Rail Station near Liberty State Park Saturday and rammed a car as he drove away with her, reports said.
Charles Joseph Harrison, 38, was arrested at his home following the 7:43 a.m. incident, reports said. Advertisement
Harrison met the woman at the station, where the pair argued, reports said.
Harrison threw the woman into the passenger seat of his car before sitting on her and driving away, reports said.
He was screaming "Why are you with him? You're such a whore," reports said.
He poured a bottle of water on her head and she began crying, reports said.
The victim's cousin who had driven to the station to pick up the woman followed the pair in her car, reports said.
Realizing this, Harrison put his car in reverse and slammed his Cadillac into the cousin's car at Pacific Avenue and Lafayette Street, reports said.
At that point, he told the victim, according to police reports, "You can go now. I will not hold you against your will."
