Act of kindness in purse theft
Monday, June 30, 2008
A Good Samaritan turned in a purse he found in Journal Square to the police early yesterday morning, a few hours after it had been stolen from a 32-year-old woman in a street robbery, police reports said.
The victim, who lives on Corbin Avenue, told Jersey City police she had been walking along West Side Avenue near Harrison Avenue Saturday night around 11 p.m., when a man demanded her purse, reports said. He ran after getting the purse, reports said.
Then at 2:30 a.m. yesterday morning a unknown man turned the purse into West District Precinct saying he found it in Journal Square, reports said.
The victim told police personal papers were missing, but $10 in cash was left in the wallet, reports said.
