Cops: Shooter and victim are both in the hospital

A Jersey City man was arrested yesterday afternoon after he shot a man in the leg on Communipaw Avenue between West Side Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard in Jersey City, police said.

But the shooter, Edward Neals, 28, of 16th Street, ended up in an ambulance and may have been the more badly hurt of the two. Police believe Neals may have fired the shot at 1:30 p.m. only after being badly beaten by the victim, also of Jersey City, reports said.

A search of Neals turned up 16 grams of suspected crack cocaine, police said. He was charged with aggravated assault, weapons offenses and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

Both men were taken to the Jersey City Medical Center with non-life-threatening wounds, police said.
