Jersey City police filed numerous charges against a felon after chasing him down yesterday.
A Jersey City felon who took off running when he saw cops in Alrington Park was busted on numerous charges after tossing a loaded gun while running from police yesterday, officials said.
Jerome Madison, 26, of Bostwick Avenue, was arrested at 6:33 p.m. on Crescent Street and charged with resisting arrest, obstructing, receiving stolen property, bail jumping, and weapons offenses including possession of a handgun by a felon, reports said.
When the officers walked up to a group of men on Arlington Avenue at 6:17 p.m., Madison took off running, and dodged arriving backup units as they tried to cut him off, reports said. On Crescent Street, Madison jumped a fence and ran into a back yard where he tossed the gun before being caught nearby, reports said.
In the yard police recovered the 9mm Smith and Wesson semiautomatic which was reported stolen in Jersey City in 2001, reports said, adding that there was a round in the chamber and six in the clip.
In April 2004 Madison was sentenced to three years probation for drug possession, officials said today. In Sept. 2010 he served 490 days in Hudson County jail in Kearny before being sentenced to probation for drug possession and resisting arrest, officials said, adding that he remains on probation.
