Jersey City's Ferris High evacuated due to small fire in annex restroom

Published: Saturday, October 29, 2011, 3:00 AM
By Adam Maher/The Jersey Journal

James J. Ferris High School in Jersey City was evacuated about 1:10 p.m. yesterday because of a small fire in one of the annex building's restrooms.

The building used to be Jersey City School 9, according to Fire Chief Armando Roman.

"The fire was most likely caused by a student smoking a cigarette," Roman said.

Jersey City firefighters put out the fire "very quickly," and there were no injuries, according to Roman.
