Jersey City man, 52, punched, kicked and robbed by group of juveniles, police say

A 52-year-old Jersey City man was punched and kicked by a gang of juveniles Friday and robbed of jewelry, cash, and cell phone, reports said.

The Bergen Avenue victim said he was walking by Virginia Avenue Park at around 6:15 p.m. and a teen tripped him, reports said.

At that point four other male teens punched and kicked him, reports said.

The man said the juveniles robbed him of two gold rings, a watch, a necklace, $500 cash, and a cell phone, all of which was worth $5,270, reports said.

Driving around the neighborhood with police, the victim spotted the 16-year-old boy who tripped him at Oak Street and Martin Luther King Drive, reports said.

The boy was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault and robbery, reports said.
Reports did not indicate if any of the stolen items were recovered.

Elsewhere in Jersey City, a 21-year-old Jersey City man was shot Friday night at Bergen Avenue and Oak Street, reports said.

The bullet entered the victim?s left shoulder and traveled to the right side of his neck area, reports said.

The shooting occurred at 10:10 p.m.

The victim was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center and refused to give police any information about the shooting, reports said.

A witness, who was with the victim at the time of the shooting, said they were approached by six to seven males, one of whom had a prior beef with his friend, reports said.

The witness said his friend was shot as he was trying to flee the scene, reports said.
