Jersey City man, 37, arrested for snatching purses in a Downtown bar

A Jersey City man was arrested on theft charges on Wednesday after allegedly grabbing two unattended purses in a Downtown bar and running away with them, officials said .

Julio A Velazquez, 37, of Brunswick Street, was charged in the theft that occurred at 11:15 p.m. Thursday in the Majestic bar located at Grove and Montgomery streets, reports said.

Officers responding to the bar were told by the two victims that their purses were on a table when a man later identified as Velazquez grabbed them and took off heading west on Montgomery Street, reports said.

Items were missing from the purses when they were found around the corner from the bar a short time later, reports said. Velazquez was located at 1 a.m. and positively identified by the victims, reports said.
