Woman abducted, robbed by Jersey City carjacker
Tuesday, November 09, 2010 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER
A Northfield woman was taken for a frightening ride in Jersey City early Sunday when a man jumped into her car and drove her away, official said.
The 22-year old said she was a passenger in the car when her friend pulled over at West Side and Sip avenues at 3:37 a.m. and got out to talk to a friend, reports said.
She told police a man quickly got into the driver's seat and hit the gas, reports said, adding that he drove north on West Side and turned west on Sip.
The carjacker demanded money from the woman. When she said she had none, the man grabbed her purse, pulled over and kicked her out of the car, reports said.
Police were called to the scene and a short time later the Honda Accord was found abandoned on Routes 1/9 between Sip and Broadway, reports said.
The car's driver, a 22-year-old Flemington woman, told police her cell phone was taken from the car and the Northfield woman said the man took off with her Coach purse containing $50, identification, credit cards and a digital camera worth about $300, reports said.
The carjacker faces robbery as well as kidnapping charges.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.
