Purse snatcher strikes just before dawn on Griffith Street in Jersey City Heights
Wednesday, March 10, 2010 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Screams cut through a Jersey City Heights neighborhood early yesterday morning when a woman was robbed by a purse snatcher on Griffith Street. The 26-year-old Sherman Avenue woman told police she was walking from Palisade Avenue on Griffith at 5:47 a.m. when a man approached her from behind, grabbed her handbag and kept running, reports said. The thief ran west on Griffith and then south on Hancock Avenue, reports said. The handbag contained a cell phone, passport, $300 and other items, reports said. She described the man as being about 27 years old, 5-foot-4, clean-cut and wearing a hooded sweater. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.
