Sword-wielding woman is arrested in Jersey City
By Charles Hack The Jersey Journal October 12, 2009
A Jersey City woman was arrested early yesterday after she tried to slash another woman with a three-foot-long Samurai sword, police said.
Thanh T. Huynh, 39, from Wales Avenue, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and unlawful posession of a weapon, reports said.
The arrest was the culmination of a bizarre set of events that started with an off-duty cop spotting a man urinating against a tree, Jersey City Police Lt. Edgar Martinez said.
The off-duty officer, who saw the man from his porch at about 1 a.m., went over to the man, identified himself as a cop, and told him to stop, Martinez said.
At that point, six people, including the woman who ultimately became the target of the sword-wielding attacker, came out a house, where a party was in full swing, and began to argue with the cop.
While this argument was taking place, Huynh came out of the house and swung the sword at the 29-year old woman, Martinez said.
Cops responding to the scene on Wales Avenue near Logan Avenue arrested Huynh.
No motive was uncovered for the attempted attack.
The man who urinated against the tree was issued a summons for public urination, Martinez said.
