Parolee nabbed inside parked car: cops
Wednesday, April 29, 2009 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER
A convicted Jersey City burglar out on parole was arrested Downtown by cops who saw him looking through the windows of parked cars before slipping into one yesterday, officials said.
Kenneth James, 36, of Bay Street, was arrested at 2:42 a.m. after police officers spotted him climbing through the rear window of a car parked at First and Provost streets, reports said. He was charged with burglary, bail jumping, possession of burglary tools and receiving stolen property, reports said.
Plainclothes officers in an unmarked car were responding to the burglary of a vehicle at Washington and York streets when they spotted James walking southbound on Provost and looking into vehicles before entering the BMW, reports said.
Police arrested James as he was rummaging through the car and found burglary tools in his duffel bag as well as a stolen credit card, reports said. The vehicle owner said his GPS was taken from the center console and was on the front seat when police arrested James.
While booking James, police found there were two open warrants for him out of Jersey City Municipal Court and a warrant for his arrest on a parole violation, reports said.
James was in state prison last year from June 12 to Nov. 25 for a burglary committed in October 2007, corrections officials said.
