A drug bust in Jersey City's West Side led to the seizure of more than $35,000 worth of heroin and nearly $10,000 in cash Sunday, according to city officials.

Police set up surveillance in a known drug area around Clendenny and West Side avenues at 10 a.m. Sunday, reports said.

At 11:20 a.m., police saw Edward "Do Do Bug" Burns hand Heath "Skeeter" Ford a white, brick-shaped object in return for cash, reports said.

At that point, police swooped in and arrested the two men.

Burns, 39, of Clendenny Avenue, was found with $208, mostly in $10, $5 and $1 bills, reports said. Ford, 42, of Martin Luther King Drive, was found with a brick of suspected heroin wrapped in white coupon paper, reports said.

After lying to police about his address, Burns eventually handed over the keys to his apartment and confessed he had more heroin and a .25-caliber handgun there, reports said.

A search of the apartment, executed at 2:39 p.m., turned up 3,554 glassine bags of suspected heroin, each with a street value of $10, officials said.

Police also found the handgun, a 12-gage shotgun, ammunition, a bulletproof vest, and $9,716 in a safe, officials said.

Burns and Ford were charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute and possession of a CDS near a school, reports said. Burns was also charged with four different weapons charges, officials said.

"It was a tremendous job by the street crimes unit for interrupting this elicit, illegal drug enterprise," said Jersey City Police Chief Tom Comey.
