There were two muggings yesterday evening on Jersey City's West Side, police said.
At 6 p.m., a man was beaten after stepping off a bus at West Side and Gautier avenues, a witness told police. An unknown amount of money was taken from the victim, who could not recall the attack and had injuries to his head and face, police said.
And a half-hour later, a 25-year-old man walking near his apartment building on Stuyvesant Avenue was making a call on his cell phone when a man wearing a black trenchcoat and a Yankees cap approached and clubbed him in the back of the head with an umbrella, reports said.
The thug took the man's cell phone and wallet and kicked him twice in the head before fleeing north on Corbin Avenue, police said.
