Sneakers and cell phones
Wednesday, August 13, 2008 among armed thieves' loot Three Jersey City men were mugged for their brand-name sneakers and another city man was robbed of cash and his cell phone, reports said, apparently by the same three armed men Monday night. In both robberies the three assailants used a silver and black revolver on their victims and fled in a dark four-door vehicle. The 20-year-old man whose cell phone was stolen was accosted at 10:35 p.m., at Summit Avenue and Howard Place. An hour later, the three victims, between 19 and 28 years old, were walking south on Bergen Avenue near Ege Avenue when three men ran toward them, reports said. One man pointed the gun at them, reports said, and the second man forced them to the ground, rifled their pockets and removed their footwear while the third person looked on. The group ran away with their loot - a pair of Nike Jordan sneakers from one victim, Puma sneakers from another and baseball cap, cash and cell phones. According to witnesses, the group ran east on Ege Avenue and the fled in a black four-door vehicle. In another incident Monday night, a 15-year-old was robbed of his cell phone and iPod, police reports said. The victim told police he was at the corner of Harmon Street and Randolph Avenue when three people came up to him from behind, pushed him to the ground and robbed him, reports said. CHARLES HACK
