i was the victim of a car break in early in the summer. however, the scumbag was nice enough to not smash the window but rather pop the window out far enough to open the lock. luckily i didn't have to get anything repaired. i had nothing sitting out but he went through the glove compartment and the center console and stole some change. now i leave everything open (except the doors) so they can see i have nothing valuable. i leave the change compartment, ashtray, glove box and center console wide open and completely empty, and so far, no problems.

Yeah, don't leave anything valuable in your car if you park it in the street. And ESPECIALLY don't leave anything that could even be vaguely considered valuable out in plain view.

Thieves in Jersey City tend to be opportunistic... they go after what they can see. Don't give them anything to steal, and chances are, they won't.

i bet someone went after a GPS. if you have one, make sure you take it with you. And wipe away the circles that it makes on your windshield. These guys see that and thats all they need to make them smash your window.

I believe that the redevelopment plan for Newark Ave calls for CCTV cameras, but there are no other plans elsewhere, that I am aware.

This has worked so well in Britain.

I saw a car that had a smashed driver side window this morning on mercer. I felt so bad. I wish they could build a HUGE garage so that people wouldnt have to park on the streets and their cars would be safe. Here's hoping they catch whomever broke these windows!

Is there any way to have camera's installed on the streets? I mean I know I'll get reamed by the big brother watching us people, but something must be done. Who knows if the owner of the car that was broken into this morning will be able to afford a new window. I just feel so bad about it. Cant anything be done?
