A man posing as a cop made off with $200 and a cell phone after searching a Jersey City man Tuesday night, police said.
According to reports, the victim was standing in front of his apartment building on Jordan Avenue when two men pulled up in a silver four-door vehicle. One of the men jumped out, showed a badge and said he was going to "check for drugs," reports said.
Police said he rifled through the victim's pockets and took $200 in cash and a black Sprint cell phone before fleeing in the vehicle. The man was wearing a red jacket and blue jeans, and was described as about 6-foot-2, stocky and in his 30s, with spiky blond hair, police said.
Police Director Samuel Jefferson said the robber could be charged with impersonating a police officer and second-degree robbery.
